A simple moon phase puzzle to illustrate the cycle and shapes the moon goes through. Children can place the crescent, quarter, gibbous, and full moon shapes in the puzzle frame to learn how the moon waxes and wanes. A corresponding digital print-at-home 3-part card file is included with high resolution moon images to show all the same moon phases. Children can match the moon puzzle pieces to the cards or match the cards and labels to the completed puzzle frame.
The puzzle frame is made from birch plywood, stained darkly to imitate the dark night sky, and then sealed. Moon puzzle pieces are made from poplar, sanded smooth and left in the natural unfinished state. The pieces are thicker than the puzzle frame to aid in placing and removing the pieces in the frame. Frame diameter is 10.5" and moon puzzle pieces are about 2" high.
This puzzle is wonderful way to help children observe and name the moon shapes they see every night!
